Sad to record that on Sunday 28th March our first walks leader, Anne Dolamore passed away aged 95.

We are indebted to the Sarratt WI for allowing two walks to be featured each month from their delightful booklet containing 12 walks around Sarratt entitled "New Walks on Old Paths".  The booklet is on sale at the Village Post Office for just £2.00.

Introduction from the booklet -

 We are fortunate to have an excellent network of paths around Sarratt which we owe first and foremost to our ancestors who used them - to go to church, visit the local pubs or make their way to their work on the various large estates.  It was largely because of this use that these paths became public rights of way. 

Most of the paths originated as direct routes from A to B, we have tried to combine them into recreational circular walks, pointing out some items of historical and botanical interest along the way.
 
We are also indebted to the Countryside Management Service, the Parish Partnership and Sarratt Parish Council who are constantly making improvements to the paths e.g. replacing stiles with kissing gates.
 
Apart from the walk through Merlins and Harrocks Wood, which uses the Rousebarn Lane car park, the walks all start and end at the Village Hall and vary in length from 2 1/2 to 6 1/2  miles.  We have tried to avoid busy roads.  Each walk has its own map and detailed directions.  There is a central map showing parking places and public houses.  The reference numbers relate to the historical notes at the end of the booklet.
 
We hope this booklet will encourage people to use the footpaths and thereby ensure that the legacy we enjoy will continue to be available to the next generation.
