Countryside Alliance Awards

Best Village Shop/Post Office National Champions Awards.

Sarratt Community Village Shop having already been voted East of England Champions go to the House of Lords for the final.

If you had said to any of us some two to three years ago that one day we would be at the House of Lords, standing on a terrace overlooking the River Thames waiting see if our community village shop had been voted Countryside Alliance Best Village Shop/Post Office National Champions (having already been voted East of England Champions), we would have thought you were dreaming!

But that dream did come true on Wednesday 30th April. The weather was glorious and even that day’s tube strike caused us no problems. We arrived in plenty of time for the reception in the Cholmondley Suite at the House of Lords where we enjoyed some delicious canapés and drinks aplenty. On the adjacent terrace, we posed for photos, with the London Eye as a backdrop keeping a close watch on proceedings.

Our MP, David Gauke joined us for a short while and arranged for a brief tour around Parliament after the reception.

Sadly we didn’t win the national prize but we are all more than happy with our regional reward. Considering there were 3,500 nominations received, it’s a fantastic result - a credit for all the hard work that is put into our village shop, not just by the managerial team but also our brilliant band of volunteers (and of course our customers) without whom none of this would have been possible.

A true community shop – thanks everyone. And hopefully next year, we will win the National prize.
