Sarratt Wildlife Volunteers
I may be tempting fate but we have been so lucky with the weather for our tasks this year.On Sunday May 9th we were again at Penmans Green, having another go at rooting out the scrubby brambles, and we worked mainly in warm sunshine. There were quite a lot of beautiful bluebells, but not where the brambles were in charge, so our hope is that the bluebells will spread if they are not competing with brambles. The delicate little Wood Sorrell was also flowering, and the fresh green of the new leaves on the trees was inspiring.
We were pleased to welcome some new members, although Flo had to rush off to claim a swarm of bees, which I understand will reside in the garden behind our shop.
In June we shall be at Commonwood, on Sunday 13th, seeking and destroying the Small Balsam which wants to grow there. This little thug can take over acres of land and is of course not a native plant. We hopefully are winning this battle but each year we make sure we find all we can.
Meet in the car park at Commonwood at 10am. Please bring your own strong gloves and digging or cutting tools if you have them, and some refreshment.
Any more recruits will be very welcome. Those who have joined us recently have said it is enjoyable and we are a friendly groupdoing our bit for the local environment.
