Paradise Lost and Restored: 400 years of Garden

Design in Oxfordshire

Timothy Walker                                          8th March 2022

You are welcome to join us for this very special lecture. A motivation for garden design remains the desire to create paradise on earth – the world as we would like to see it.

Many of our residents are avid gardeners and will find great interest in this unique lecture. Leading Oxford expert, Timothy Walker, will reflect back to the beginnings of the Oxford Botanic Garden, the oldest botanical garden in Britain. He will explore the development of the Garden since its foundation in 1621 and how the art of gardening has changed – or not – throughout the County and the wider gardening world. The Botanic Garden has played a crucial role in reflecting 21st century garden design, and in linking horticulture and science.

Timothy Walker was Director of the Oxford University Botanic Garden for over 15 years and is now a lecturer and tutor at Somerville College, Oxford.

Tuesday 8th March 2022  –  Sarratt Village Hall

Refreshments from 10.30am and lecture at 11am.
